Hand decorated vintage desk/bureau

This is a piece full of character. One of its most interesting features is that it’s backed with (I think) pieces of Indian tea chests and I love this.
It’s been lovingly handmade some time early in the last century. It came to me with worn dark varnish and I have stripped it back and handpainted it with a rich, soft, Arts & Crafts style deep blue/green/grey chalk & mineral paint, and then freehand decorated it with tulips and a delicate trailing leaf design on the fall inside. I’ve left the rest of the inside largely untouched to show the history of the piece. It’s then finished with two coats of clear lacquer.

I use an earth-friendly exterior quality paint, and it’s tough & water resistant, but as with all antique pieces it’s best to treat it with respect to keep it in good condition.
